| Hat trick of awards for The Seafood Company |

The Seafood Company has scooped a hat-trick of awards including the overall accolade of Company of the Year at this year’s Food Manufacture Excellence Awards. The company’s Marsden Road site in Grimsby also took the top honours in the ‘Seafood’ and ‘Productivity Through Skills’ categories. The awards recognise the very best UK food and drink manufacturing companies and are considered a benchmark for industry excellence.
Food Manufacture’s Company of the Year is selected by an independent expert panel of judges from the winners of the individual awards categories. It is presented to the company that, in the judges’ opinion, outshines all the rest; demonstrating excellence across the board.
As the company’s flagship facility focusing on chilled natural fillet production, the Marsden Road site has consistently and successfully strived to create a world class manufacturing environment. Over the past 12 months it has seen a culmination of significant cross business initiatives, improving efficiency levels by 125% and reducing product giveaway by 50%.
The implementation of an enhanced training programme has resulted in greater employee retention which, along with improved scheduling, has increased productivity by 20%. The Seafood Company has nurtured a strong learning culture within the organisation and its ‘building block’ approach to training and development provides its employees with a clear pathway of progression. As well as sufficiently meeting the business needs, the training and development gives all employees an opportunity to gain a formal qualification.
Pete Ward, managing director of The Seafood Company, together with Tam Muldoon, who heads up the Marsden Road factory, was delighted to accept the awards on behalf of The Seafood Company:
“The Seafood Company was only formed in 2007 so to walk away with the overall Company of the Year award is particularly special. These awards are testament to the hard work put in by the staff at the Marsden Road factory; working as a cross functional team has been paramount to accomplishing these levels of achievement.
