Pinney's steps in with vital funding to help secure the future of local Under 19's Football Club, Annan Athletic.
Annan Athletic football club and agreed a sponsorship deal with Annan's biggest employer, Pinneys of Scotland, to safeguard the club’s future participation in Scottish Football League (SFL) Under 19s activity. Following the decision that Annan Athletic would be ineligible for a £10,000 funding package as part of the SFL and New Football Pools’ ‘Fit for Football – Fit for Life’ initiative, Pinneys (part of The Seafood Company) stepped in to offer its backing of £7,500 to the Scottish Football League’s newest team and one of only two community owned clubs.

Henry McClelland, chairman of Annan Athletic, is delighted with the agreement:

“While we fully respect the decision of the SFL regarding the distribution of the Fit for Football funding, as a club that relies on sponsorship and support from the local community, it would have been a perhaps unattainable additional level of financial support which we would have had to raise in order to fully participate in the planned Under 19s league, especially as the league did not become regionalised as anticipated. Thanks to the sponsorship from Pinneys of Scotland this is now no longer a concern.

Grant McFadzean, commercial director of Pinneys of Scotland, explains the company’s decision to support Annan Athletic:

“Annan Athletic is a fantastic example of a true community club and, as the biggest employer in Annan, we are delighted to be working with them. Football is a great outlet for young people to instil discipline and team spirit, stay healthy and have fun. When we were approached by the club to support its Under 19s campaign we welcomed the opportunity to invest in an initiative that would benefit the young people of Annan and the surrounding area.”

Annan Athletic is a community owned football club with 100% of its income generated from its social club and business sponsorship. One year on from joining the Scottish Football League the club has maintained this self-sufficient model and, along with Stranraer FC, is one of only two of the 30 SFL and 12 SPL clubs to be wholly owned by its local community.

Owned by The Seafood Company, Pinneys of Scotland supplies premium quality smoked and fresh salmon and seafood products. The company holds the Royal Warrant to supply smoked salmon to the Queen and is Marks and Spencer’s leading supplier of seafood dishes.
